The scrappy little Kayhi Kings from the population 8,000 Ketchikan traveled to Anchorage and knocked off #3 seed East Anchorage today in the 4A tournament in one of the most exciting tournament games of the decade.

In spite of being undersized and a huge underdog, the Kings used a relentless press and pressure defense to force over 30 East turnovers. Sit down, your not going to believe this - East out-rebounded Kayhi 56-27.

East led most of the game, including by double digits a couple times. East led by four points, with 40 secs left and had the ball. But Kayhi dug deep and kept East from scoring. Then Kayhi's Bickerstaff nailed an NBA three-pointer with 30 seconds left and Kayhi clawed their way back and sent the game to over time with a free throw in the games final seconds.

Neither team gained a clear advantage and the game went to Double Over Time.

East had the ball with 60 seconds left and a tie ballgame. But Kayhi's defense caused a 10-second violation and gave the Kings the ball back. They went into a stall and ran the ball down to seconds left. Anderson drove to the hoop and then nailed a fall away 12-footer as the buzzer sounded to give Kayhi the upset victory.

Last second buzzer beater in double over time to knock off a 20-2 team? Congratulations to Kayhi coach Kelly Smith and a great scrappy Kayhi Kings ball club.

The great thing is that both teams are extremely young. Kayhi starts one senior, East starts zero seniors. We could see a rematch next year in the tournament. Two great teams.

Not really sure if this was an upset! Since East never really played anyone good!! They got beat by Kodiak and Dimond. I can see Dimond beating them. Who did East really beat?? that was or is good??
In other words Ketchikan is a lot beater team then what East played all year.

Well according to WPI it was an upset.
East beat Dimond twice this year. Dimond went 19-3. They also beat Chugiak twice, who was also a top 8 team.
East and Dimond were 2 and 3 in the state this season. West Valley is the only other team with a higher WPI.
So if beating Dimond TWICE doesn't constitute beating a "good team" then that means West Valley is the ONLY "good" team in the state?

This was a huge upset and a fantastic win for Kayhi.

So much for any more upsets, the Dimond Lady Lynx rout the Kayhi Lady Kings and end their dreams of a title with a 71-46 win.

You clearly have no clue about how basketball works and what a let-down game is.
East beat Dimond twice this year.
    Dimond won the State Championship.
And you should learn how WPI works.

But mainly, thanks for reminding me why I stopped posting here. Shhbe- keeping it classy.

    JW back to retirement.
