Small correction (see article linked below) but as of the 2020-21 season, NAIA Men’s and Women’s basketball are all one big happy Division.

According to the article, NAIA schools are allotted 8 scholarships for men’s ball and 8 for women’s hoops.

NCAA D2 are allotted 10 I think. NCAA d3 aren’t given scholarships to offer in athletics.

I saw something online that said D3 and NAIA are basically the same, but I disagree. I think NAIA is much more comparable to D2 and then there’s a decent drop to D3.

D3 isn’t bad, but they get a different athlete than D2 and NAIA simply because the D3 kids pay their own way. JMO...

I knew that was coming but was t sure if that was this year or next year that NAIA was switching over.

Lewis and Clark St however is a national powerhouse at that level and going there is a big deal for Colton. Very good squad.

So far only Alaskan Schools or L&C (Leif Karlberg) with strong Alaskan ties have signed anyone from up here. The battle to get noticed for our players continues.

That said Patrick McMahon (class of 21) just got an offer to Montana St. His first, of I assume many, NCAA D1 offers.

Upper level NAIA is equivalent to NCAA D2. But there can be some bad NAIA teams, it just doesn’t have the depth of talent across the board as D2. But the upper level teams are really good.

I'm hearing Chris Lee to Pima CC in AZ, same school that Jeremiah Bailey was able to jump from to Pacific after one year.

Not surprised by this. He averaged only a couple minutes a game. You don't go to North Carolina to develop because they just recruit over you.

This is one area of concern I have with some of the “adults” within basketball in this state. They too often are looking out for their own accomplishments “I helped put (insert player) into (insert power conference D1school). Instead of looking at both sides of the coin. Kids can make these power D1 rosters...but are they going to play? Will they be just a garbage time player for 4 years? I see a lot of these guys transferring unhappy. To me I’d rather go somewhere I would play a lot, a mid-major or high level D2, because you only got one chance at this in your life. Because as you say, most of those schools aren’t where you go to develop as you quickly get passed over for a younger, flashier model. Is it more important to say you went to a top school and be continuously passed over or to a lesser school and actually get to play? I wish this was explained to these kids more often. I’m glad a kid like Sullivan figured out quick and used his redshirt year and still has 4 years of eligibility to fully experience.

Menard to the same juco, Western WY, that current UAA asst. coach Ryan Orton, was recently the head coach at.

Super good league with many D1, D2, NAIA signings out of that league every year. It’s a national juco league.

Recent Anchorage guards like Nathan Fromm and Dazhon Wyche went and played in the Wyoming juco league. There’s another West guard from about 2014 that went down there— Markiis Ailey.

Another Alaskan to play in that league was Iziah Sherman-Newsome before he transferred on to finish his career at Simon Fraser.

That’s 11 players from the class of 2020 that have signed so far, which equals the amount from the 2019 class.

West side of Anchorage to LA — now that’ll be a change of scenery/culture for sure!! Good luck to IG, that’s a good level of juco hoops.

A very good and high profile JC League, lots of exposure. I believe that will be 3 Alaskan kids playing in that California JC league, Grant, Jaren Carle and Jamari Lawrence.
